Pubis and Pelvic Health

Pelvic pain can be typically felt directly over your pubic bones and tend to be very tender when you press on them. This condition frequently occurs during pregnancy or during delivery. The pelvic floor, hips, and pelvis must be treated to de-stress the pubic region. Your therapist at PhysioActive will always explain what they are doing and walk you through the evaluation and treatment.

The most commonly searched conditions that cause pubic pain include:

  1. Osteitis pubis: This is a condition characterized by inflammation of the pubic bone, which can cause pain and discomfort in the pubic area.
  2. Pubic symphysis dysfunction: This occurs when the pubic symphysis (the joint that connects the two pubic bones at the front of the pelvis) becomes unstable or misaligned, causing pain and discomfort in the pubic area.
  3. Pelvic floor dysfunction: This refers to a variety of conditions that affect the muscles and tissues in the pelvic floor, which can cause pain and discomfort in the pubic area, as well as other symptoms such as urinary or bowel issues.
  4. Stress fractures: Repetitive stress or overuse of the bones in the pelvis, such as during long-distance running, can cause stress fractures in the pubic bone, leading to pain and discomfort.
  5. Hip labral tears: The labrum is a ring of cartilage that surrounds the hip joint, and tears in this structure can cause pain and discomfort in the hip and pubic area.
  6. Adductor tendinopathy: This is a condition characterized by damage or degeneration of the tendons that attach the adductor muscles (inner thigh muscles) to the pubic bone, causing pain and discomfort in the pubic area.
  7. Prostatitis: In addition to causing groin pain, inflammation of the prostate gland can also cause pain or discomfort in the pubic area.

If you are experiencing pubic pain, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan. Depending on the underlying cause of the pain, treatment may include rest, physical therapy, medication, or in some cases, surgery.
