Shin Splints
Pain can start on the front of the shin or on the inside, back side of the shin bone (the tibia). The front of the shin pain is caused by the tibialis anterior muscle that is responsible for flexing your ankle. This muscle is extremely important during walking and running and is frequently weak. The tibialis posterior muscle usually causes more pain in the inside or back of the sin. This muscle helps support the arch of the foot and helps stabilize the foot. Though traditional therapy like active release, dry needling, graston and other soft tissue techniques can work well for pain relief, shin splints are usually a compensation for an abnormal movement pattern, muscular imbalance or poor leg, foot, hip control. Your PhysioActive therapist will be able to get you rapid pain relief, but also more importantly get you moving better so you can continue to walk, exercise, run or compete without having to worry about any more pain
