Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction
Sacroiliac (SI) joint dysfunction is a condition where the SI joint is not moving correctly, causing pain and discomfort in the lower back and hip area. There are several potential causes of SI joint dysfunction, including:
- Trauma or injury to the area
- Overuse of the joint
- Pregnancy and hormonal changes
- Arthritis
- Degenerative changes in the joint
Common sequelae from altered sacroiliac movement include:
- Low back pain
- Hip pain
- Referred pain to the legs or feet
- Stiffness or limited mobility in the lower back and hip area
- Difficulty standing or walking for prolonged periods of time
- Instability or a sensation of “giving way” in the lower back or hip area.
