Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction

Sacroiliac (SI) joint dysfunction is a condition where the SI joint is not moving correctly, causing pain and discomfort in the lower back and hip area. There are several potential causes of SI joint dysfunction, including:

  1. Trauma or injury to the area
  2. Overuse of the joint
  3. Pregnancy and hormonal changes
  4. Arthritis
  5. Degenerative changes in the joint

Common sequelae from altered sacroiliac movement include:

  1. Low back pain
  2. Hip pain
  3. Referred pain to the legs or feet
  4. Stiffness or limited mobility in the lower back and hip area
  5. Difficulty standing or walking for prolonged periods of time
  6. Instability or a sensation of “giving way” in the lower back or hip area.
