Nerve Palsy: Irritation of Nerves Can Occur all Over The Body
Brachial plexus as they come from the neck under the collarbone and into the arm/shoulder.
A nerve palsy around the shoulder can cause a variety of symptoms, which may include:
- Weakness in the shoulder or upper arm muscles: This may make it difficult to lift or move the arm, or to perform certain activities such as reaching or grasping.
- Numbness or tingling in the shoulder, arm, or hand: This may be accompanied by a “pins and needles” sensation or a feeling of “electric shock” in the affected area.
- Pain in the shoulder or arm: This may be a sharp, stabbing pain or a more generalized ache or discomfort.
- Loss of sensation in the shoulder or arm: This may make it difficult to feel touch, temperature, or other sensations in the affected area.
- Muscle wasting or atrophy: Over time, a nerve palsy can cause the affected muscles to shrink or waste away, which can lead to further weakness and functional impairment.
- Limited range of motion in the shoulder or arm: This may make it difficult to move the arm through its full range of motion, or to perform certain activities such as raising the arm above the head.
It is important to seek medical attention if you are experiencing any of these symptoms, as nerve palsy can be a serious condition that requires prompt treatment.
