Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Tear

This is the knee injury we read about most often in the sports section. It is a very important stabilizing ligament running through the centre of our knees. When you tear your ACL, you will frequently hear a pop and there is usually immediate swelling in your knee.

We work with surgeons who frequently do not perform surgery to repair the ACL as studies show that if you are stable and follow a proper physical therapy program, surgery can frequently be avoided.

However, if your knee is unstable and is giving way or collapsing during sports or regular activities this will usually require a surgical repair. Our therapists at PhysioActive will be able to do the appropriate ligament testing and functional movement testing necessary to guide you in your recovery.
