Incontinence
“ I laughed so hard, I peed in my pants”. Funny, but not so funny is it?
This unfortunate accident could be a dysfunction of pelvic floor muscles. Incontinence is a personal and sensitive problem. It can have a major impact on your quality of life and cause you to avoid social situations, leading to a less active lifestyle. Many women feel that this is a normal fact of life after pregnancy. More than 50% of women do not seek out the help they need.
Often, incontinence results from weakening of the pelvic muscles. Patients lose voluntary control over their bowels and bladder. This may happen from surgery, due to aging, or from a number of other causes.
The PhysioActive Approach
Fortunately, help is available at PhysioActive. We offer effective physiotherapy to address your incontinence issues.
Our physiotherapists will look at the many possible causes of your incontinence. Most women can eliminate their incontinence with manual therapy to correct the position of the pelvis, strengthen their muscles and improve their posture and breath. In some case,s internal manual therapy can be beneficial. Our therapists focus on strengthening your pelvic muscles and teaching you how to properly activate these muscles, restoring your control over your bowels and bladder. Additionally, these programmes can reduce pelvic and lower back pain. We offer help for women in a discreet, private, and caring environment.

Diastasis Recti (DRAM)
As a woman’s abdomen grows during pregnancy and if the oblique muscles of the abdomen are insufficient to control this growth she can experience Diastasis recti of the abdominal muscles (DRAM). This is a separation of the abdominal muscles along the line of connective tissue that runs down the centre of the abdomen. DRAM can be painful and can prevent you from engaging in regular exercise. The weakness in abdominal muscles usually results in back pain. The condition is very common – in fact, up to 60% of women suffer from some degree of DRAM.
In severe cases, DRAM can dramatically reduce your quality of life and cause you pain with normal daily activities. Exercise may be excruciating, and even simply transitioning from sitting to standing can be painful.
The PhysioActive Solution
Diastasis recti can usually heal without surgery. However, improper exercise (typical gym abdominal exercises) and even normal sitting and standing can aggravate the condition and delay healing. We provide a comprehensive program to address the key oblique chain stabilization system to promote healing of your abdominal muscles and prevent complications and delays. Furthermore, our expert physiotherapists will teach you proper body mechanics to avoid pain and worsening of your DRAM along with safe methods of exercise while you heal.
If you suspect you may have DRAM, call us now for an assessment and a speedy recovery.
