Personal Training, Movement Therapy, & Exercise Programs
Exercise is a major component to any physiotherapy program and is the best way for you to see benefits quicker as well as help sustain those results over time. Your physiotherapist will tailor an exercise plan to fit your goals while taking into consideration your abilities and schedule at the current time. A comprehensive gym allows for a more successful transition from patient to graduate. For patients who have gym/fitness memberships, we will advise you on how to work the routine into your program with or without equipment or provide advice on modifying your present program. If you would like us to recommend someone in the community we work closely with the national recognized “Trainer of the Trainers” Mauro Orrico. He has been featured on City-TV, CTV and teaches across the country.
To book a physiotherapy appointment tailored to personal training, mat, pilates, and reformer exercises kindly call our office and we’d be pleased to schedule an appointment.
Braces and Supports
We offer a wide range of ready-made and relatively inexpensive supports/braces that may benefit your specific situation. Your therapist will let you know if there is an available support to help you function more effectively.
In the event that a more complicated/custom brace is required e.g. post surgery, we can arrange to refer you to a qualified orthotist/technician or have them come directly to the physiotherapy clinic in order to fit you.
Ergonomics Education / Advice
Ergonomics is the study of how your body interacts with your environment when you perform a task or activity. It often involves arranging your environment and the mechanics of how you do a task or activity. When your workstation is set up properly, you may be less likely to have problems such as headaches or eye strain, possibly reduce neck and back pain, and perhaps prevent conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome that can be related to repetitive activities. Whether or not your workstation is causing physical problems, a workstation that is properly set up can increase your productivity and quality of work life.
How Can I Prevent Injuries?
To prevent work-related injuries, it is important to position the work so that you can sit comfortably and minimize stress on any specific area of your body, vary your positions and tasks, and match tools to your size and preferences. There are many exercises and stretches that you can do during the day to also help by giving your body a needed break from repetition. Speaking to you Physiotherapist is the best way to find out the best exercises for you!
As a part of our ergonomic assessment, we will advise you on how to properly modify your environment e.g. setting up your workstation, in order to minimize any stresses placed on your body during your daily activities. Thomas Hein, one of our physiotherapists, has been trained under the internationally recognized Matheson system and brings with him over 10 years of ergonomic consultation experience with former clients such as the Hong Kong Bank of Canada, North York General Hospital, Sears and the BBC.
