Thomas Hein PT, Dip. Manip. PT, FCAMT, CGIMS, MCPA

Physiotherapist

Thomas is a manual physiotherapist with years of postgraduate experience in orthopaedics, sports medicine and manipulative therapy. After graduating from Queen’s University in 1995 he has practiced in a variety of clinical settings. He completed a full-time post-graduate program in 1998-99 and received his first diploma from the Canadian Academy in 2000 and he continues as Instructor for the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association in postgraduate manual and manipulative therapy education. Thomas also has an interest in traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture.

At the request of physicians in the Thornhill area who were not getting the results with their patients Thomas opened Physioactive in 1999 with a goal of opening a clinic second to none. This has not changed quelled his thirst for knowledge and he continues to teach and take post graduate studies on a part-time basis. Completing the five year Osteopathy Program at the Canadian College of Osteopathy has furthered increased Thomas’ knowledge base. It has allowed Thomas to improve results incorporating craniosacral, visceral and other osteopathic techniques into his physiotherapy practice. He has had great success combining a variety of techniques to achieve maximal results with even the most difficult or complex clientele. He incorporates a wide range of techniques including spinal manipulation, myofascial release, spinal stabilization exercises, neural tissue mobilization and medical acupuncture. Recently, Thomas has also completed his training for intermuscular stimulation (IMS). Having many “tools in his toolbox” allows Thomas to enjoy success treating a variety of ages and conditions. With a growing interest in pediatrics and pre and post natal care. Thomas has found great reward in successfully treating children for many conditions.


Robyn Cornofosky Reg. PT, BSc.P.T., MCPA

Physiotherapist

Robyn holds an Honours Bachelor of Science (Biology) from McMaster University and a Bachelor of Science (Physical Therapy) from the University of Toronto. Robyn is a registered Physiotherapist with years of clinical experience in out-patient orthopaedic and sports medicine.

Robyn thrives on empowering others by giving them greater understanding of their body and their injury. She believes the best therapeutic results are obtained with patient compliance – by teaching ways to avoid aggravating a condition, building strength and endurance and preventing re-injury in the future.

Passionate about postural education and core stability programs, Robyn also uses manual therapy to help clients’ progress. She has a keen interest in continuing education and furthering her skills as a clinician.

Robyn’s professional style involves gaining a person’s confidence and trust, to make a difference quickly and have them tell others about their positive experience with a Registered Physiotherapist. She believes the biggest compliments come by way of referrals.


Preya Ramdass Reg. PT, B.M.R., MCPA

Physiotherapist

Preya Ramdass graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation in Physical Therapy in 2006. Preya has taken her advanced manual and manipulative courses offered through the orthopaedic division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and hopes to challenge her exams in the near future.

Preya’s area of interest remains in orthopaedics and sports injuries and she is enthusiastic about gaining a wide range of experience as she continues with her post-graduate education and working along side other Physiotherapists in the field. Preya’s education and experience gives her success in treating a wide range of orthopaedic and sports injuries by incorporating a variety of physiotherapy interventions including manual therapy techniques, exercise programs, medical acupuncture, education and modalities such as laser therapy.


Hermina Vas Reg. PT, Honours BKin, MscPT

Physiotherapist

Hermina Vas graduated from the University of Toronto with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy. She completed her undergraduate degrees at McMaster University receiving an Honours Bachelor Degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Sociology.  Currently Hermina is pursing advanced training in manual therapy offered through the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, as well as taking various courses specializing in orthopaedics and sport injuries.  She has completed training in acupuncture which she combines with her physiotherapy skills to effective treat people of all ages.  She also has a strong interest and knowledge in anatomy and physiology, having completed several advanced courses in this field and having been a Teaching Assistant at McMaster University for three years. Hermina’s educational background and practical experience give her great success in treating a wide range of acute and chronic conditions by incorporating the use of manual therapy techniques, individualized exercise programs, patient education and a variety of electrotherapeutic modalities.


Ryan Leung Reg. PT, BKin, MscPT, CAFCI

Physiotherapist

Ryan is a graduate of the 2005 University of Toronto Physical Therapy program. He has completed post graduate studies in Manual Therapy (completion of intermediate exam) with the Canadian Physiotherapy Association – Orthopaedic Division and with the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute. Ryan believes in continual education and has plans to continue to pursue further studies in manual therapy as well as taking additional courses to increase his skill set.

Ryan maintains a position at the Toronto Western Hospital working within the inpatient setting and has experience working with a variety of patients with orthopaedic, neurological and cardiorespiratory conditions.

Ryan has a keen interest in teaching and currently holds a status appointment with the University of Toronto. Ryan has assisted in clinical labs, small group facilitation and has taken many students for clinical placements.

Ryan is committed to the restoration of movement & function and in the promotion of a well balanced lifestyle within all of his patients.


Andrew Conroy PT.  Grad.Dip.Phys.

Physiotherapist

Andrew graduated in the U.K. in 1987 and since 1989 has had extensive experience specializing in Orthopaedic and Sports Injury Rehabilitation here in Canada.

Working closely with the North York General Orthopaedic surgeons Andrew has an up-to-date and thorough knowledge of latest surgical approaches to both upper and lower extremities and their post-operative rehabilitation. In addition, he has treated a wide range of non-surgical conditions successfully.A passionate teacher, Andrew has been an instructor in numerous community settings covering such topics as ‘Back care and Lifting’ for Health care workers and the ‘Benefits of exercise’ for the Diabetic and Coronary health population. He has been a Clinical instructor for many PT students and is a credentialed clinical instructor with the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). He brings this ability to educate to the clinical setting to ensure the patient (client) has a thorough understanding of their condition and the approach to treatment. His constant pursuit of knowledge through completion of numerous post-graduate courses allows delivery of precise targeted treatment to achieve successful outcomes for patients and the attainment of their functional goals.

It is this individually tailored treatment approach, combining care with clinical experience, in a comfortable, professional manner, that enthuses Andrew in his work as a Physiotherapist.


Mauro Orrico

Personal Trainer & Rehabilitation Coach

Mauro specializes in Personal Training and Rehabilitation Coaching. Mauro joined the PhysioActive team due to the recommendations of Mr. Hein’s colleagues, and his superb reputation. Mauro has achieved great results in rehabilitation environment. He motiviates and works with your therapist to provide you with a specific program for your injuries and goals. Not only does Mauro hope to help those attending Physioactive, but he himself would like to benefit from working alongside the talented and experienced staff. His experience as an athlete, who has underwent the rehabilitation process, allows him a personal perspective and understanding of the ups-and-downs of
coming back to a quality of life previously enjoyed.

Josee Day Chiropodist, D. Ch. -

Consultant

Josee is a graduate of The Michener Instiute for Applied Health Sciences’ program in Chiropody. She is highly experienced in biomechanical analysis and in the casting of custom foot orthotics for a wide spectrum of disorders. Josee is available for onsite consultations at our clinic for assessment, prescription and provision of custom foot orthotics. She has had great success treating conditions ranging from achilles tendonitis, to foot pain, low back pain and even headaches. She is a useful member of the physioactive team in order to prevent recurrence of our clients pain and dysfunction.

Robin Montgomery RMT, Manual Osteopathic Practitioner

Robin is a graduate of the five year osteopathy program at the Canadian College of Osteopathy. With a background in massage therapy Robin finds great joy in successfully treating all aspects of her clients health. Robin will perform a thorough assessment of all systems of the body in order to determine the underlying deficiencies of the body. She will restore and maximize their function returning her clients quickly to their activities of work and play.

Robin continues to teach at the massage therapy school. This allows her to stay current in the most up to date and successful treatment techniques. She also enjoys passing on her knowledge and experience to students entering the healthcare field.

PhysioActive achieves exceptional results in some of the most difficult cases using a combination of osteopathy, naturopathy, physiotherapy and massage to maximize the results of each client. This collaborative treatment approach allows our team to determine what type of care will best suit each individual client.


Ramona Astrid Bernardi, RMT

Registered Massage Therapist

Ramona is a Holistic Health Care Professional celebrating over eight years of experience. She completed the Massage Therapy program at the Canadian College of Massage & Hydrotherapy. It has allowed Ramona to further her knowledge of the workings of the human body, allowing the wisdom of healing to ground into the physical body, creating dynamic change. It is her passion for helping people heal that shines through my work. As Valedictorian of her class, she lead through examples of compassion, dedication, outstanding professionalism & client care, and success for all! Ramona achieves success through a natural aptitude for compassion and takes a clinical, yet holistic look at her clients’ needs.

Lynda Basian

I began my career as a law clerk, but after eighteen years of work in this field, I was left feeling unfulfilled. As a mother of two girls, one with food sensitivities, I was inspiredto redirect my focus to a more rewarding career in nutrition. Thereafter, I enrolled in theCanadian School of Natural Nutrition and graduated with honors as a Registered HolisticNutritionist upon completion of the program.

I combined my passion for nutrition and my desire to help others when I began working in the health and wellness industry. On a daily basis, I provide motivation, guidance, andeducation to clients to improve the general quality of their life by reaching their specifichealth goals. Food is a powerful entity. The quality of food we eat directly affects the degree of well being we experience. Whether your goal is to shed excess weight,lower cholesterol, reduce blood pressure, boost energy, improve your immunity, reduce musculoskeletal disorders, etc., I can help. Shirley Fung

Registered Massage Therapy

Shirley is a Registered Massage Therapist with years of health & wellness experience, from hospital to hotel spas, doing hands-on work, management and education training in between the two extremes. After graduating with honour from the 2200 hour Ontario massage program, she has practiced in variety of settings, including spa, sports club and physiotherapy clinic. She also achieved both hospital & sports outreach certificates in addition to the required school clinic training.

After registered with CMTO as RMT, Shirley attended massage conference on a regular basis and furthered her training in pregnancy massage, Soft Tissue Release for treating tight muscle, ultrasound treatment, TMJ/jaw treatment, chair massage and has basic knowledge of Matrix Re-patterning, NISA, Chakra, Reflexology, Acupressure and Zen Shiatsu.

True to her desire to always learn new skills and treatments in holistic wellness, Shirley’s current focus is in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. She will be sharing knowledge of Qigong and Tuina with her clients soon.


Kathryn Yash

Naturopathic Doctor

In 2004, Kathryn earned a Bachelor of Arts in Contemplative Psychology, which employs Buddhist philosophy and mindfulness within a psychological setting. In 2010, Kathryn completed a Naturopathic Medical degree from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. During her coursework, Kathryn served as the student representative for the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors, and still works closely with other board members. In addition to pursuing her degree in Naturopathic medicine she has been certified in a diet modification and weight loss program called First Line Therapies and is a Reiki master. Besides these formal trainings, Kathryn has over 11 years of experience working with children and teenagers in various settings.

In addition, Kathryn worked with Healing Mountain Publishing to produce board exam study guides for Naturopathic medical students. She has contributed to the Naturopathic Clinical Boards Study Manual Volume 1 and 2. As well as, she is the author of the Naturopathic Basic Science Board Review Study Questions. She enjoys writing texts that explain the material in a way that is comprehendible and easily absorbed by students.

Kathryn believes very much in the Naturopathic principle of Vis Medicatrix Naturae, or in English, the healing power of nature. This core principle of Naturopathic medicine states that the body has an innate wisdom to heal its self. Through the use of different therapies, Kathryn helps people learn to listen to their bodies and return to their natural state of balance.
